In a bold move to silence his online critics, Hugh Grant took to Twitter to share a vintage mugshot of himself alongside the s=x worker he was famously arrested with in the Nineties.
The snapshot captures Grant looking somewhat sheepish, his shoulders hunched, as he poses for the camera at a Los Angeles police station following his arrest for engaging in “lewd conduct” in a public setting with Divine Brown.
Accompanying the 1995 photo was Grant's pointed message to his trolls: “To my dear trolls.
Hope this is helpful.
Now you have more time to spend with mummy.”
Grant's brush with the law occurred just a year after his meteoric rise to stardom with the success of “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” with the actor later attributing the incident to a moment of “insanity.”
At the time of his arrest, Grant was in a relationship with his longtime partner Liz Hurley, who subsequently expressed profound regret over the situation, acknowledging the pain he caused loved ones and the embarrassment inflicted upon colleagues.
Reports emerged that the News of the World tabloid had paid Brown a substantial sum of $100,000 for her story, in which she alleged that Grant had shared inappropriate remarks with her during their encounter.
Hurley, who initially remained silent following the scandal, later revealed that she felt devastated upon learning about Grant's involvement with a s=x worker, likening the experience to being struck by a bullet.
Following legal proceedings, Grant was slapped with a $1,000 fine and mandated to participate in an AIDS education program as part of the consequences stemming from his actions.
