Warren Beatty, the renowned Hollywood heartthrob, may have captured the hearts of many women, but he failed to impress one particular lady: Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
In a new biography entitled Jackie: Public, Private, Secret, author J. Randy Taraborrelli reveals an intriguing chapter in the former first lady's life.
Exclusively excerpted in this week's issue of PEOPLE, the book uncovers a brief fling between Jackie and the actor during the mid-1970s.
The book discloses that their romantic encounter stemmed from Jackie's role as a book editor, where she aimed to entice influential figures like Beatty to pen their memoirs.
According to Taraborrelli, Jackie found Beatty intriguing and went on a few dates with him before inviting him to spend the night at her Fifth Avenue residence.
A member of Jackie's staff recalls a surprising scene in the morning, as the actor sat at the kitchen table engaging in casual conversation with Jackie's son, John F. Kennedy Jr., as though it were an everyday occurrence.
While Jackie and Beatty spent time together for several months, she eventually confided in her close circle that she felt he was too self-absorbed.
When asked about his bedroom skills, Jackie responded, “Oh, he's fine.
Men can only do so much, anyway.”
Taraborrelli emphasizes that Jackie perceived Beatty as completely consumed by his career and movies, constantly discussing directors, producers, and films, none of which aligned with her own interests.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Taraborrelli reveals that the romance was short-lived.
He quotes Jackie saying, “It lasted two weeks longer than it should have.”
Jackie Kennedy, who graces the cover of the July 2023 issue of PEOPLE, shared two children, Caroline Kennedy and John F. Kennedy Jr., with her first husband, President John F. Kennedy.
They tied the knot in 1953.
The tragic assassination of President Kennedy on November 22, 1963, shook the nation and Jackie's life forever.
In October 1968, Jackie embarked on a second marriage with Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis.
However, their union came to an end when Onassis passed away from respiratory failure in March 1975.
