In a recent interview with The New York Times on Wednesday, September 2, Jane Fonda, the 82-year-old Grace and Frankie star, opened up about a missed opportunity in her past love life.
Rather than dwelling on Argentine revolutionary Che Guevara as a lost romantic interest, Fonda expressed regret over not seizing the opportunity with Marvin Gaye when it presented itself.
During the interview, Fonda reminisced about a time when she was introduced to the iconic Motown singer by a friend who was helping her organize concerts for her then-husband Tom Hayden.
Despite Gaye's apparent interest in her, Fonda, who was married to Hayden from 1973 to 1990, decided to turn down his advances due to her marital commitment at the time.
Reflecting on the encounter, Fonda humorously recalled how Maureen Dowd from The New York Times joked about Gaye incorporating the phrase “s**ual healing” into his flirtatious advances towards her.
Fonda quipped, “I needed some but he didn't say that, no.” She later discovered that Gaye had kept a photo of her on his refrigerator, a detail she learned only after his passing.
In the realm of romance today, Fonda asserted that she is content with her current status, emphasizing that she has no interest in pursuing further romantic relationships.
She expressed satisfaction with her life surrounded by her family, friends, and activism, indicating that she has no time or inclination for romance.
Despite her Hollywood upbringing as the daughter of actor Henry Fonda, the veteran actress shared her views on the entertainment industry luminaries she has encountered over the years.
Reflecting on Marilyn Monroe, Fonda described the iconic actress as radiating an indescribable glow that emanated from her very being, transcending her onscreen presence.
Fonda also touched upon her experience working alongside Marlon Brando in the 1966 film The Chase, characterizing him as a talented yet somewhat disappointing figure.
She acknowledged his greatness as an actor while hinting at a more complex persona behind the scenes.
In addition to her personal anecdotes, Fonda reiterated her commitment to environmental activism, aligning herself with fellow eco-conscious celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio.
Known for her involvement in initiatives such as Fire Drill Friday protests, spearheaded by climate activist Greta Thunberg, Fonda continues to champion causes dedicated to raising awareness about climate change and promoting sustainability.
