In a surprising turn of events, Jennifer Aniston has reportedly refused to accept her late mother Nancy Dow's ashes.
Dow passed away earlier this year after battling poor health for many years.
Aniston and her mother had been estranged for nearly two decades, with Aniston often expressing that her mother treated her as competition.
Once Aniston found success in her career, Nancy believed she was entitled to profit from her daughter's fame.
Although Aniston claimed they had reconnected a decade ago, many felt their relationship was still strained and distant.
It's understandable why Aniston chose to disconnect from her manipulative mother.
A few months ago, there were rumors that the estrangement between Aniston and her mother ran so deep that Nancy excluded her daughter from her will as a final act of defiance.
This story appears to hold weight, as Aniston's latest refusal to take her mother's ashes seems to be another way of saying goodbye and asserting her independence.
Despite Nancy Dow's passing at the age of 79, Jennifer Aniston continues to have mixed feelings towards her late mother.
According to In Touch Weekly, the 47-year-old actress declined the offer to take Nancy's ashes and made it clear that she wanted nothing to do with them.
A source close to the family revealed, “She said, ‘I don't want them.'”
The source also added that someone suggested Aniston found having the ashes around her home morbid and not aligned with her personal style.
Even though Aniston's rejection may not come as a surprise considering their troubled relationship, it still shocked family and friends.
The source further stated, “Everyone knows that she and Nancy had a horrible relationship.
She was an absentee daughter, and now, even with Nancy gone, it seems that she still doesn't want her mom around.”
In Touch Weekly went on to report that the feud between Jennifer and Nancy persists even after death.
The former Friends star had not seen her mother since Nancy suffered a stroke in 2011.
Last spring, Jennifer flew to Los Angeles to bid her final farewell to Nancy, who was described as “sick, frail, and alone” during her last months before passing away on May 25.
Justin Theroux, Jennifer's husband, reportedly attended the memorial service with her.
The source mentioned that Justin had expected Aniston to accept her mother's ashes.
It is difficult to blame Jennifer Aniston for her decision.
After all, why would she want the ashes of someone she barely knew, liked, or loved?
One can only wonder what Aniston's therapist has to say about this situation.
Perhaps this could have been an opportunity for closure, where Aniston could have scattered the ashes into the ocean or performed some other symbolic act.
However, it is also possible that Aniston has already said her goodbyes and has no interest in holding onto the ashes.
Personally, I don't find ashes to be morbid, but growing up with the Hindu tradition of funeral pyres, I have come to view them as a normal and expected part of the grieving process.
