Jennifer Grey and Matthew Broderick Still Haunted by Tragic Car Accident

In her new memoir, Out of the Corner: A Memoir, Jennifer Grey opens up about the painful memories of her relationship with Matthew Broderick, particularly the fatal car accident that they were involved in.

Decades after the release of the iconic film Dirty Dancing, a highly anticipated sequel is in the works.

The 1987 classic followed the story of Frances “Baby” Houseman (played by Jennifer Grey) as she falls in love during her summer at Kellerman's resort in the Catskills.

Speaking in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Grey, now 62, revealed that the car accident in Ireland was one of the top three traumas of her life, possibly even the worst.

She described the terrifying experience of being alone on a country road, witnessing the death of others.

The crash occurred just before the release of Dirty Dancing and resulted in two fatalities and severe injuries for Broderick, who was 60 at the time.

Grey also clarified that she didn't withhold any details about the accident, emphasizing that it was a tragic accident and not Broderick's fault.

She explained that there was no answer to give because accidents happen, and she holds deep sympathy for the family affected by the tragedy.

Grey and Broderick first met on the set of Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

The couple kept their relationship hidden until they got engaged while the film was still in production.

However, their relationship ended in 1988 after 12 years together.

Broderick went on to marry Sarah Jessica Parker in 1997.

After the breakup, Grey went on a blind date with Johnny Depp, whom she described as “ridiculously beautiful” but also “crazy jealous and paranoid.”

She revealed that Depp's ill temper and unhappiness seemed to stem from his struggles with fame and the pressures of his TV series, 21 Jump Street.

Their relationship ended just before Grey's 29th birthday.

Interestingly, Depp then began dating Winona Ryder, who happened to be Grey's neighbor at the time.

Grey described the experience as feeling replaced and erased, amplifying the pain of their breakup.
