Working with Jonah Hill on the set of “Don't Look Up” wasn't a walk in the park for Jennifer Lawrence.
The 31-year-old actress, who starred alongside Hill, Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Timothee Chalamet, and Chris Evans in Netflix's dark comedy, admitted to struggling during the filming process.
Lawrence revealed that Hill's character, Jason Orlean, was particularly difficult to work with.
As the president's son and chief of staff, Jason's entitlement and rudeness were off the charts, posing a challenge for Lawrence.
Not only did his position result from nepotism, but he was fully aware of it and showed no remorse.
Consequently, Jason proved to be insufferable, and Hill's portrayal of the character amplified these negative traits during the shoot.
“It was really, really hard filming with Jonah, constantly trying not to ruin take after take by bursting into laughter.
There was one day where we dedicated the entire shoot to him improvising insults at me.
It was both daunting and incredible,” Lawrence shared with Vanity Fair, reflecting on the experience.
Despite the difficulties, Jennifer Lawrence commended Jonah Hill's improvisational skills.
While the entire cast attempted unscripted scenes, Hill and Streep stood out as the most proficient.
“He's a master, a comedic genius.
We all tried our hand at improvisation, but Jonah was simply on another level,” Lawrence praised.
She further revealed that Hill often came up with outrageously ridiculous lines that left everyone in fits of laughter.
Although the intention was to inject ironic chuckles into the movie, it sometimes made it challenging for the actors to maintain their focus.
“Don't Look Up” is currently streaming on Netflix.
This 2021 film, written by Adam McKay and David Sirota, has garnered a 78% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
However, critics have been slightly less favorable, giving it a score of 56%.
As the saying goes, you can't please everyone!
