Jim Carrey's legal team has recently accused his late girlfriend, Cathriona White, of manipulating STD test results in an attempt to extort the actor.
The explosive court filing in Los Angeles alleges that White tampered with her friend's Planned Parenthood records to deceive Carrey into believing she was free of STDs before their relationship began.
By using a negative test result from 2013 belonging to her friend, White supposedly altered the document to appear as if it was from 2011 and presented it to Carrey as her own.
The allegedly doctored Planned Parenthood files are now being utilized in a wrongful death lawsuit filed against Carrey by White's mother, Brigid Sweetman, and estranged husband, Mark Burton, according to Carrey's recent legal submission.
Responding to these claims, Michael Avenatti, the lawyer representing Burton and Sweetman, asserts that Carrey is resorting to falsehoods in a bid to protect himself and challenges the veracity of his narrative.
Both Sweetman and Burton contend that Carrey procured drugs for White under a fake name, knowing her history of depression and previous suicide attempts.
They further allege that Carrey transmitted STDs to White without disclosing this information to her.
Carrey, on the other hand, claims that in early 2013, White and her lawyer conspired to extort him with false accusations of infecting her with STDs.
Carrey's court documents suggest that White aimed to extort money from him by fabricating records, including altered information, false test results, and fictitious dates.
Following White's suicide in 2014, her husband and mother pursued legal action against Carrey, accusing him of being responsible for her death.
Text messages exchanged between White and a friend, along with expert analysis, purportedly reveal White's manipulation of the test results.
The documents indicate that White requested her friend's Planned Parenthood records in April 2013 and subsequently doctored them to falsely indicate negative STD test results just before her involvement with Carrey.
In addition to altering the information to match her own, White backdated the results to 2011, prior to her relationship with Carrey.
She justified the discrepancies by claiming she used her friend's information to avoid immigration issues, although investigations show her friend never visited Planned Parenthood in December 2011, as White alleged.
A forensic document examiner, Sean A. Espley, concluded that White's medical records from 2011 were likely fabricated through a “cut and paste” technique.
Carrey is seeking dismissal of the claims against him if the court determines that the STD results were falsified and that Burton was aware of their fraudulent nature when submitting them.
Carrey's legal team argues that Burton's claims are unfounded and based on falsified evidence, which they describe as an abuse of the discovery process warranting severe sanctions.
The ongoing legal battle between Carrey and the representatives of White underscores the complex and contentious nature of the case, with both sides vehemently defending their positions.
