In a dramatic courtroom showdown, Johnny Depp revealed that he lost an astounding $650 million during his peak fame from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.
Adding to his woes, he now faces a staggering $100 million tax bill, which he attributes to former business managers he accuses of swindling him.
This shocking testimony unfolded on the final day of Depp's evidence in a libel case against his son, where he vehemently denied allegations of violence towards ex-wife Amber Heard.
The court was taken back to 2016, when an alleged incident occurred at Heard's 30th birthday party.
Depp arrived late after receiving distressing news about his finances.
Heard claimed that he threw a magnum of champagne at her and pulled her hair during a heated moment.
Under questioning from his lawyer, Depp explained that he was just beginning to understand the extent of the financial mismanagement he had suffered.
“I was learning from my new business manager that the previous ones had taken quite a lot of my money,” he stated, candidly admitting, “They stole my money.”
When pressed for specifics, he revealed, “It's embarrassing to say, but I had made $650 million since ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3.'
After firing them, not only did I lose that amount, but I also found myself $100 million in debt due to their failure to pay my taxes over 17 years.”
Depp is currently suing News Group Newspapers (NGN) and its executive editor, Ken Wootton, for labeling him a “wife-beater” in an article that cited supposed overwhelming evidence of abuse against Heard.
In a rather theatrical moment during his testimony, Depp even acted out what a “haymaker” punch looks like, a term he used in a secret recording from a meeting with Heard in July 2016.
“This is a type of wild swing, like a roundhouse punch,” he explained, emphasizing the exaggerated nature of the move.
The courtroom also viewed a photo of Depp passed out and covered in ice cream, which Heard allegedly showed him in 2014 to illustrate how far he had fallen.
Depp recounted how he had been working long hours and preparing for a detox trip when the incident occurred, adding, “I was obviously exhausted, and the ice cream spilled all over me.”
Earlier in the proceedings, Heard's claims that Depp violently assaulted her were challenged by testimonies about his injured finger, which he sustained in a separate incident in Australia.
His former personal assistant, Steven Deuters, provided a statement claiming that Heard had subjected Depp to years of emotional abuse.
Deuters, who worked closely with Depp for 16 years, expressed shock at Heard's temporary restraining order against the actor.
Describing Heard as “sociopathic” and a “Machiavellian overlord,” Deuters shared his relief when Depp and Heard's tumultuous relationship ended.
He even sent a text message to a friend expressing his frustration with the situation, stating, “Everything has compounded into one monster steaming pile of catastrophe.”
The court also examined a flight from Boston in May 2014, where Heard alleged that Depp had thrown objects at her and physically assaulted her.
Deuters testified about the cramped conditions of the aircraft, noting that it would have been quite a feat for Depp to commit such acts given the tight space.
He asserted that he and other assistants tried to intervene during the flight, contradicting Heard's claims that they did nothing to help her.
As this high-profile case unfolds, Depp continues to deny all allegations of domestic violence.
The drama surrounding the couple's turbulent relationship and the financial fallout from Depp's career has captivated audiences worldwide, creating a media frenzy that shows no signs of slowing down.
This courtroom saga is far from over, and as more details emerge, the public remains glued to the proceedings.
The implications of these revelations could have lasting effects on both Depp's reputation and his financial future.
