Renowned director Steven Spielberg is highly regarded in the film industry for his significant contributions and exceptional work.
Both the cast and crew who have had the opportunity to work with him speak highly of his talent and professionalism.
However, not everyone shares the same sentiment, as actress Julia Roberts felt betrayed by the director.
Roberts labeled Spielberg a turncoat after he failed to defend her against false allegations during the filming of the movie Hook.
Despite Spielberg's reputation for being friendly and supportive, Roberts believed that he did not live up to these qualities when she faced controversy.
In a previous interview, the Pretty Woman star discussed the accusations that arose during the production of Hook.
Several crew members reported her difficult behavior and work ethic, causing discomfort and misery on set.
Despite vehemently denying the allegations, Roberts received little assistance.
She expected Spielberg and her co-star, the late Robin Williams, to support her but was disappointed when Spielberg remained silent.
Reflecting on this, she expressed her shock and disappointment, stating, “I couldn't believe that this person that I knew and trusted was actually hesitating to come to my defense.
It was a hard lesson to learn.
It was the first time that I felt I had a turncoat in my midst.”
Roberts felt betrayed by Spielberg's lack of action, as he neither confirmed nor denied the allegations.
She had placed her utmost faith in him, making his silence all the more hurtful.
Hook, directed by Spielberg, tells the classic story of Peter Pan in Neverland.
The film follows Peter Banning as he confronts his past enemy, Captain Hook, who kidnaps Banning's children in an act of revenge.
To save his kids and prevent Hook from wreaking havoc, Banning must embrace his role as Peter Pan once again.
With the help of Tinker Bell and The Lost Boys, he embarks on a journey to rescue his children from their nemesis.
Despite the controversy surrounding the production of Hook, the film remains available for streaming on Netflix.
