The tragic death of actor was caused by an accidental overdose of prescription medications, according to the New York City medical examiner's office.

The office released a statement stating that Ledger died as a result of acute intoxication from a combination of drugs including oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam, and doxylamine.

The drugs found in Ledger's system include painkillers (hydrocodone and oxycodone), an anti-anxiety drug (diazepam), an anti-anxiety drug (alprazolam), a sleeping agent (temazepam), and an antihistamine (doxylamine).

Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, Ledger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation into Ledger's death will continue, with the DEA looking into any potential illegal acquisition of prescription drugs.

The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the hidden dangers associated with combining prescription medications, highlighting the need for caution and awareness when it comes to these substances.
