Fans were taken aback by Liam Neeson's gaunt appearance in July, sparking concerns about his health status and triggering speculations of illness.
Despite the worrisome visuals, Neeson's representative was quick to reassure fans that the 63-year-old actor is in the peak of health, attributing his dramatic weight loss to his upcoming role in Martin Scorsese's film, “Silence.”
For his portrayal of Father Cristóvão Ferreira in the movie, Neeson shed nearly 10kg, embodying the character's essence in the narrative that chronicles the journey of two Jesuit Portuguese priests on a mission to Japan to propagate Christianity.
During a recent appearance at the Los Cabos Film Festival in Mexico, Neeson shed light on the director's vision, stating, “Martin wanted us all to look a bit more gaunt, which [co-stars] Adam [Driver] and Andrew [Garfield] did as well.
Adam went to the extreme.
He's an ex-marine and when he's given an order, he follows it through.”
Neeson's commitment echoes the dedication of other renowned actors like Robert De Niro, who famously shed nearly 30kg for his acclaimed role in Scorsese's “Raging Bull” in the 1980s.
