Lindsay Lohan’s Father Arrested on Patient Brokering Charges

Michael Lohan, the father of actress , was taken into custody in Palm Beach County on Friday for alleged patient brokering, according to authorities.

At approximately 11 a.m. on Friday, 60-year-old Michael Lohan was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on charges of conspiracy to commit patient brokering and five counts of patient brokering.

The investigation revealed that Lohan received kickbacks totaling over $27,000 directly or through his association with Lola Recovery Ventures, a business entity based in Palm Beach Gardens.

These kickbacks were reportedly paid by a substance abuse treatment center located near Delray Beach.

Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg stated in a prepared statement on Friday that Mr. Lohan was under investigation by the Sober Homes Task Force.

The charges against him involve receiving kickbacks for referring patients to drug treatment facilities.

Aronberg emphasized that patient brokering undermines the integrity of the healthcare system by prioritizing financial gain over the needs of patients.

This arrest marks the 117th made by the Task Force, with more arrests expected in the future.

It is worth noting that Lohan denied any involvement in patient brokering during questioning.

Records indicate that Lohan has listed addresses in Boca Raton and Southhampton, N.Y.

In the state of Florida, it is illegal for healthcare providers or laboratories to offer or receive commissions, bonuses, or bribes in exchange for patient referrals.

Patient brokering typically involves guiding individuals with private health insurance towards specific drug treatment centers and urine-testing labs.

The individual responsible for steering patients, often associated with a sober home, receives kickbacks from the significant insurance reimbursements that these centers and labs receive for conducting drug tests.

In some cases, these reimbursements can amount to as much as $5,000 per week.

In March 2019, two individuals formerly affiliated with Pride Recovery, a Delray center, were arrested on patient brokering charges.

Roy Brian Ageloff and his nephew, Jarryd Ageloff, were accused of paying $20,000 in kickbacks for patient referrals.

Court documents suggest that Michael Lohan received kickbacks from Jarryd Ageloff.

According to a report from Boca Raton, Lohan cooperated with the police after being informed of the ongoing investigation.

During a recorded telephone conversation on April 8, Lohan maintained his innocence regarding patient brokering allegations.

He claimed that the money he received was intended to facilitate the sale of Pride Recovery.
