Margot Robbie, the actress who plays Harley Quinn in the upcoming film Suicide Squad, has opened up about her initial fear of co-star Jared Leto and his method acting as the Joker.
Leto is known for going to extreme lengths to get into character, including sending disturbing gifts to his fellow actors.
Robbie admitted that she was worried Leto would actually harm her on set, due to the abusive nature of their characters' relationship in the film.
Robbie shared her concerns in an interview with slashfilm.com, saying, “When I first heard that he was method and that we couldn't refer to him as Jared and things like that, I started to panic a bit because I'm in an abusive relationship with this guy who thinks he is the character.
I was worried I'd get beat up on set.”
However, Robbie quickly discovered that Leto was nothing like the Joker off-screen.
She described him as “really lovely” and praised his professionalism and respect towards her.
Leto constantly checked in with Robbie between takes, ensuring that she felt safe and comfortable during filming.
Suicide Squad, directed by David Ayer, features a star-studded cast including Will Smith, Cara Delevingne, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis, and Ben Affleck.
The film follows a group of villains who are recruited by a secret government agency to carry out dangerous missions in exchange for reduced jail sentences.
With its highly anticipated release, Suicide Squad is expected to perform exceptionally well at the global box office.
Fans can catch the action-packed film when it hits UK cinemas on August 5th.
