Actress Illeana Douglas has finally unveiled her long-anticipated book, a hidden gem that was kept under wraps by her publisher.
With a rich background in the entertainment industry, having graced numerous films and TV series, Douglas was notably romantically involved with renowned filmmaker Martin Scorsese during the 90s.
Her lineage is equally impressive, being the granddaughter of the esteemed actor Melvyn Douglas and the prominent California congresswoman Helen Gahagan Douglas – the latter known for coining the infamous nickname “Tricky Dick” for Richard Nixon after being defeated by him following two terms in office.
Titled “I Blame Dennis Hooper: And Other Stories from a Life Lived in and out of Movies,” Douglas' book delves into her experiences as she transitioned from a publicist working alongside Peggy Siegal in the mid-80s to becoming an actress under Scorsese's mentorship, featuring in several of his notable works during that era.
Despite the end of their romantic relationship, Illeana has remained tirelessly committed to her craft, with two upcoming film projects slated for release in 2016.
Within the memoir, Douglas shares candid anecdotes of collaborating with industry giants such as Scorsese and DeNiro, shedding light on the highs and lows of her journey.
Notably, she recounts her involvement in Spike Lee's “Jungle Fever,” where her scenes were ultimately edited out, and her brief appearance in Woody Allen's “Husbands and Wives,” which regrettably ended up on the cutting room floor.
One unforgettable encounter chronicled in the book is Illeana's meeting with the legendary Marlon Brando, accompanied by Scorsese.
Their discussion spanned various abandoned film projects, including ones involving Michael Jackson portraying God and a collaboration with Native American activist Russell Means earmarked for Scorsese's direction.
During a poignant moment with Brando, late into the night and amidst the haze of wine-fueled conversations, Illeana broached the subject of Brando's connection to Marilyn Monroe.
To her astonishment, Brando solemnly asserted, “They most certainly murdered her.”
When pressed further on his conviction, Brando affirmed his belief, sending shivers down Illeana's spine with his unwavering tone.
The revelations within Douglas' book offer a compelling glimpse into the inner workings of Hollywood luminaries and the untold stories that lie beneath the glitz and glamour of the silver screen.
It's a narrative that captivates from start to finish, inviting readers into a world where reality often eclipses the illusions of Tinseltown.
