Marlon Brando’s Troubling Treatment of Women Exposed by Rita Moreno

, a renowned actress, has recently shed light on her tumultuous relationship with the late Hollywood legend, .

In an interview with Jessica Chastain for Variety's “Actors on Actors” series, Moreno revealed that while dating Brando was thrilling, he mistreated her in numerous ways, to the point where she contemplated suicide.

Opening up about her ordeal, Moreno confessed that she once tried to end her life by consuming pills at Brando's residence.

This startling revelation comes after she initially shared her suicide attempt in her PBS documentary, “: Just a Girl Who Decided to Go for It.”

During her conversation with Chastain, Moreno delved into the toxic nature of her relationship with Brando.

Having been involved with Brando for almost eight years, Moreno reflected on the excitement of being with the iconic star.

However, she also acknowledged his dark side, particularly when it came to women.

“He was extraordinary in many, many ways, but he was a bad guy.

He was a bad guy when it came to women,” confessed the West Side Story star.

Notably, Moreno is not the first woman to speak out about Brando's mistreatment of women.

His co-star in Last Tango in Paris, Maria Schneider, has publicly shared her experience of feeling angry, humiliated, and violated by Brando, especially during the filming of an unplanned rape scene.

Moreno expressed her vulnerability during her time with Brando, admitting that she struggled to stand up for herself against his mistreatment.

“I was such a different person then.

I had all the makings of a doormat,” she revealed.

“I didn't understand that if I was going to kill this pathetic, sad, trod-upon Rita, the rest of Rita was also going to go with me.

I really didn't seem to understand that.

But that's what the attempt was.

It was an attempt.”

While some argue that Brando's inability to defend himself due to his death nearly two decades ago should prevent discussions of his less-than-stellar behavior, Moreno believes she has every right to share her experiences.

Although she has not provided explicit details of Brando's mistreatment, it is clear that he exhibited questionable behavior towards women.

Brando's complex life, filled with personal tragedy and trauma, cannot excuse his mistreatment of women, nor should it shield him from posthumous accountability for his actions.
