During a recent discussion with his co-star Emily Blunt, Matt Damon shared an amusing yet cringe-worthy anecdote about kissing Scarlett Johansson while filming “We Bought A Zoo” in 2011.
The seasoned 52-year-old actor, known for his roles in “Good Will Hunting” and “Saving Private Ryan,” humorously described the experience as “hell.”
Damon and Blunt engaged in a conversation about the proper protocol for shooting kissing scenes with co-stars.
They emphasized the importance of good oral hygiene, including tooth-brushing, mouthwash, and chewing gum, though Damon mentioned he could overlook some halitosis.
Reflecting on the unfortunate kiss with Johansson, Damon jokingly expressed his dismay, stating, “I had to kiss Scarlett Johansson — can you imagine how horrible that was for me?”
Blunt joined in jest, playfully commenting on Johansson's lips and the ordeal Damon endured during the scene.
The actor recounted a lunch break during filming where both he and Johansson assumed the kissing scene had concluded, only for Johansson to unknowingly consume an onion sandwich, leading to an unexpected continuation of the smooch afterward.
Despite the awkward situation, Damon found humor in teasing Johansson about her onion breath.
In a light-hearted exchange, Damon revealed that despite the onion mishap, he humorously taunted Johansson throughout the scene, claiming her breath smelled like roses.
The duo burst into laughter, showcasing a playful camaraderie behind the scenes.
Away from the set, Damon enjoys a fulfilling family life with wife Luciana Barroso and their daughters.
Meanwhile, Johansson, who shares children with ex-husband Romain Dauriac and current husband Colin Jost, has embraced motherhood alongside her successful acting career.
“We Bought A Zoo,” inspired by Benjamin Mee's novel, portrays Damon's character as a widowed father seeking a fresh start by purchasing a zoo.
The film explores themes of love, loss, and new beginnings, with Johansson playing a pivotal role in the protagonist's journey.
On a different note, Damon's latest project, “Oppenheimer,” directed by Christopher Nolan, exceeded expectations at the box office with an impressive opening weekend.
The historical drama, featuring a star-studded ensemble cast, showcased Damon's versatility alongside renowned actors such as Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., and Florence Pugh.
As Damon continues to captivate audiences with his diverse performances, his comedic recount of the unforgettable kiss with Scarlett Johansson adds a touch of humor to his illustrious career.
