Matthew McConaughey has shared his audition story for the iconic film ‘Titanic' and clarified long-standing rumors surrounding the casting process.
During a recent appearance on a podcast, the actor, best known for his role in ‘Dallas Buyer's Club,' was asked about the speculation regarding who was originally considered for the character of Jack in the 1997 blockbuster.
Ultimately, Leonardo DiCaprio secured the role, alongside Kate Winslet as Rose, leading to a lasting friendship between the two that still captivates fans today.
McConaughey revealed that his audition for ‘Titanic' was not like the typical ones.
Instead, it involved a screen test with Winslet and director James Cameron.
Although he received positive feedback from Cameron and the producers, the role ultimately did not come his way.
Despite not landing the part, McConaughey later engaged in conversations with Cameron to address the evolving gossip surrounding his involvement in the film.
One prevalent rumor suggested that he had been offered the role but turned it down.
McConaughey even felt the need to confirm with his agent at the time that he had not rejected the opportunity on his behalf.
However, McConaughey clarified that these rumors were false.
He never received an offer for the role but had a strong screen test and believed he was in contention.
Similarly, the podcast host, Rob Lowe, disclosed that he too had auditioned for a different role in ‘Titanic' but was not successful.
McConaughey humorously acknowledged their shared experience, stating, “Neither one of us made the cut, but we were in the running.
Love it.”
Interestingly, McConaughey eventually had the opportunity to work with DiCaprio on ‘The Wolf Of Wall Street.'
During the podcast, he expressed admiration for his co-star, particularly highlighting DiCaprio's willingness to collaborate and embrace improvisation.
McConaughey revealed that DiCaprio encouraged him and provided ideas during their scenes together.
While McConaughey may not have been part of the ‘Titanic' cast, his audition experience and subsequent work with DiCaprio showcase the fascinating dynamics of the film industry.
Despite not securing certain roles, actors often find themselves crossing paths and collaborating on other projects.
