Meghan Markle’s Half-Sister and the World of Pregnancy Conspiracy Theories

Samantha Markle, the half-sister of , has been accused of spreading conspiracy theories about her famous sibling, including the idea that the Duchess of Sussex faked her pregnancies.

BuzzFeed News recently published a report containing screenshots of now-deleted tweets from one of Samantha Markle's accounts, in which she allegedly endorsed the fake-pregnancy narrative.

These tweets suggest that she has been collaborating with an influential anti-Meghan YouTube account and other critics of Meghan and .

The report describes Samantha Markle as “Meghan's biggest troll” and highlights her history of accusing her younger half-sister of using her marriage to as a means of social climbing, while distancing herself from her American family.

Although Samantha Markle has refrained from making these claims in mainstream media interviews, she has allegedly become one of the most active online proponents of fake-pregnancy rumors.

The Meghan “pregnancy truthers” are a vocal group who specialize in spreading such theories about celebrities.

These truthers claim that Meghan's children, Archie and Lilibet, were conceived through in vitro fertilization and born via surrogate.

Some even go as far as suggesting that Archie and Lilibet may not exist at all, accusing the Sussexes of using lifelike baby dolls during public appearances.

Samantha Markle allegedly tweeted from her @TheMarkleSammy account in June 2021, stating that proof of delivery from her sister's womb should be provided in order for any of the children to receive titles.

She also suggested that a surrogate was involved in Archie's birth.

Following the publication of the BuzzFeed News report, Twitter suspended Samantha Markle's @TheMarkleSammy account.

The company did not provide a specific reason for the suspension but stated that it takes action against users engaged in targeted harassment.

This is not the first time one of Samantha Markle's accounts has been suspended; her previous account, @sammymarkle, was banned three years earlier.

Samantha Markle's defamation lawsuit against Meghan, in which she accuses her half-sister of spreading false and malicious lies, was filed almost two weeks before the BuzzFeed News report.

It remains to be seen how this report will impact the lawsuit.

Samantha Markle's lawyer, Douglas Kahle, has suggested that her email and other accounts may have been hacked, and that certain statements attributed to her were made by third parties with the intent to defame her.

He also raised concerns about the authenticity of some of the screenshots published by BuzzFeed.

It is worth noting that Meghan is not the first female celebrity to be targeted by fake-pregnancy theories.

Other high-profile women, including Beyoncé, , Sofie Hunter, and Christine Quinn, have also faced similar rumors.

The allure of these theories lies in the fact that public pregnancy is a relatively new phenomenon in American culture, and society is still grappling with how to navigate it.

The scrutiny surrounding pregnancy and motherhood has given rise to a booming industry of products and services catering to expectant and new mothers.

Fake pregnancy theories about celebrities often revolve around claims that they are wearing prosthetic bellies or have quickly shed post-birth weight.

Critics analyze videos and photos in minute detail to support their claims.

In Meghan's case, conspiracists have scrutinized videos showing her pregnant stomach moving as she walks or changes positions.

There is particular concern among the Meghan pregnancy truthers about Archie and Lilibet's position in the line of succession to the British throne, as there is uncertainty regarding whether a child born via surrogate can inherit the title.

The fascination with celebrity pregnancies has led to societal pressures on regular women to regain their pre-pregnancy bodies as quickly as possible.

Celebrities who seemingly bounce back immediately after giving birth can inadvertently contribute to these insecurities.

The resentment and distrust towards celebrities, the media, and the elite can fuel conspiracy theories about fake pregnancies.

Online conspiracists find a sense of control and purpose in uncovering and sharing these narratives, which can also attract attention and help them build influence.

Samantha Markle has been heavily criticized for her association with Meghan and has been accused of exploiting their connection for personal gain.

Her autobiography, titled “The Diary of Princess Pushy's Sister,” has only intensified the animosity between the two siblings.

Samantha Markle's lawsuit against Meghan alleges that her half-sister has deliberately spread false and malicious lies to ruin her reputation.

Their father, Thomas Markle, stands in support of Samantha and has even launched his own YouTube account to advocate for their side of the story.
