Meryl Streep's absence from the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) to promote ‘August: Osage County' was initially attributed to illness.
Many fans, including myself, were disappointed not to see her there.
We adore Meryl and always enjoy her movie promotions.
Furthermore, had Meryl attended TIFF, she would have undoubtedly overshadowed Julia Roberts.
However, it seems that despite Julia's efforts to steal the spotlight, Meryl ultimately triumphs because, in the end, she is Meryl Motherf—king Streep, as Samuel L. Jackson aptly puts it.
But the story doesn't end there.
The Enquirer has an intriguing backstory that suggests a reason why Meryl now despises Julia Roberts and refused to attend TIFF.
According to sources, Meryl is disgusted and never wants to work with Julia again because Julia prioritizes her close-up over anything else, even at the expense of fellow Oscar winner Meryl.
An insider claims that Julia took control of the ending of their film, leaving Meryl and the original closing scene on the editing room floor.
Apparently, Julia's desire for more screen time, a glowing close-up of herself, and a brand-new ending led her to throw Meryl under the bus.
This act of self-centeredness left Meryl so appalled that she boycotted the premiere at TIFF.
In the movie adaptation of the Broadway hit ‘August: Osage County,' Meryl portrays Julia's mother, alongside other stars such as Juliette Lewis, Ewan McGregor, and Dermot Mulroney.
The film, which explores the dysfunctional dynamics of three generations in an Oklahoma family, has already garnered Academy Award buzz.
Both Meryl and Julia are potential contenders for Best Actress nominations.
Although reports suggest that the two actresses got along well on set, the original ending featured a solitary shot of Meryl after being abandoned by her daughter.
However, this scene did not test well with audiences.
This is when Julia made her move.
She approached director John Wells, expressing her love for Meryl but suggesting that the final image should focus solely on her to avoid the downer of Meryl looking sad on screen.
While the ending may still undergo changes, it seems that Julia ultimately got her way.
At present, the final scene depicts the 45-year-old actress driving away alone.
The insider reveals that Meryl was livid and has resolved never to collaborate with Julia again.
As someone who hasn't watched the film yet, I am now eager to see which ending they chose.
If the last shot showcases Julia, then I will fully buy into this conspiracy.
However, if Meryl remains the final image, it will reinforce the belief that Harvey Weinstein instinctively knows audiences will always prefer Meryl over Julia, regardless of the circumstances.
Meryl could portray an ax murderer, and people would still find her more likable than Julia Roberts, declaring her performance Oscar-worthy.
That being said, I find it hard to believe that Meryl would be this petty.
If Julia did indeed convince the director to alter the ending, I can understand Meryl feeling annoyed, but not to the extent of “I never want to speak to Julia again!”
But who am I to say?
If they were making a film exclusively for my enjoyment, it would consist of Benedict Cumberbatch sitting n^ked at a piano for two hours, serenading me with a special song.
