Michael Douglas has expressed regret to Catherine Zeta-Jones for his remarks back in 2013 suggesting that oral s-* could cure tongue cancer.
During an interview with Event magazine to promote his latest film, Beyond the Reach, the 71-year-old actor acknowledged his failure to effectively convey his thoughts regarding his 2010 cancer diagnosis.
At the time, Douglas had stated to the press that tongue cancer could be treated by performing oral s-* on women, claiming it to be a s-*ually transmitted disease.
He further mentioned that in his case, lifestyle factors like smoking and drinking did not contribute to his illness.
However, a medical expert had refuted Douglas's theory, stating that it lacked medical validity.
Despite being now free of cancer, Douglas admitted that his main remorse was the potential embarrassment experienced by Catherine Zeta-Jones due to his comments.
Expressing his regret, Douglas emphasized his intention behind the controversial statement, clarifying that he was referring to a s-*ually transmitted virus known as HPC.
He highlighted the importance of a vaccination recommended for all children before becoming s-*ually active to prevent the contraction of HPC, a virus linked to specific cancers like cervical, tongue, and throat cancer.
When asked directly if he believed oral s-* could cure cancer, Douglas denied such claims, affirming that he was aiming to deliver a public service message rather than promoting a medical belief.
Although Michael Douglas is set to portray physicist Hank Pym in the upcoming film Ant-Man, there is no indication that any of his future roles will involve expertise in medical science—an aspect that might be deemed favorable considering his past controversial statements regarding health matters.
