Mike Tyson Facing New Allegations of s–ual Assault
A recent lawsuit filed in Albany County Court has brought forth accusations against Mike Tyson, claiming that he committed rape in the early 1990s.
The victim, who has chosen to maintain her anonymity, recounted in a sworn statement that she and a friend were approached outside a New York nightclub named September by Tyson and his limo driver, who invited them to a party.
Allegedly, the unnamed woman followed Tyson into the limousine alone, where he proceeded to make unwanted advances by kissing and touching her, despite her clear protests.
She further claims that Tyson forcibly removed her clothing and s–ually assaulted her.
In a recent video by Youtuber and filmmaker Jon Bravo, concerns were raised about statements made by Tyson in the past that could potentially be used as incriminating evidence in the ongoing case.
Tyson can be heard in the video conversing with an unidentified individual in 2011, where he mentioned, “I'm not above violating a woman, but I didn't violate that woman,” in reference to previous accusations of s–ual assault against him.
The victim in the current case is seeking $5 million in damages for the physical, psychological, and emotional trauma she endured, which includes depression, anxiety, violent tendencies, and struggles with substance abuse.
Choosing to remain anonymous, the victim cited concerns about potential media backlash due to Tyson's celebrity status as the reason behind her decision to file the lawsuit discreetly.
A heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990, Tyson is renowned in the boxing world for his prowess; however, his personal life has been overshadowed by numerous legal entanglements and controversies.
Having served time in prison following a rape conviction in 1992, Tyson has faced charges related to drug possession, driving under the influence, and incidents of physical abuse over the years.
Enacted in May 2022, the N.Y.
Adult Survivors Act introduced a one-year grace period allowing adult survivors of s–ual assault to bring lawsuits against their abusers, irrespective of when the abuse occurred.
His ex-wife, Robin Givens, publicly accused Tyson of physical violence, a claim that gained attention during a contentious 2009 interview with Oprah Winfrey, during which Tyson made light of assaulting her.
In a notorious incident during a 1997 boxing match, Tyson infamously bit off a portion of Evander Holyfield's ear, adding to his history of legal troubles and public controversies that have tarnished his reputation.
As the lawsuit against Tyson remains pending, the former boxer has not issued any public statements addressing the allegations, leaving questions about the potential impact of the victim's delayed testimony on the legal proceedings.
