Alec Baldwin faced the termination of his show on MSNBC after a series of controversies and a final outburst directed at a New York Post photographer.
The actor's weekly program, “Up Late With Alec Baldwin,” was axed following his offensive and homophobic language towards the photographer.
Both Baldwin's spokesperson, Matthew Hiltzik, and a representative from the cable channel issued a joint statement confirming the discontinuation of “Up Late.”
The MSNBC spokeswoman characterized the decision as a mutual parting and expressed well wishes to Alec Baldwin for his future endeavors.
The actor had previously been suspended for two weeks after his verbal attack on the Post photographer, where derogatory terms were used.
Despite the planned resumption of his show, Baldwin's behavior prompted criticism from LGBTQ+ advocacy groups and ultimately provided NBC Universal with a reason to end the struggling program after just four episodes.
Not only did Baldwin's show suffer from poor ratings, but internal conflicts also arose.
He reportedly made unreasonable demands such as requesting a separate makeup room and a humidifier due to his discomfort with the dry air at 30 Rock.
Moreover, his insensitivity towards a colleague battling cancer by prioritizing his requirements further soured relationships within the network.
According to a source within the network, Baldwin's frustration had been building over recent weeks as his shows failed to attract viewership.
His initial enthusiasm waned as he realized the challenges of cable news and the lack of audience engagement with his content.
In response to the show's cancellation, Baldwin shifted blame onto what he described as the extremist faction of gay advocacy, claiming they played a role in the downfall of his program.
He acknowledged his own responsibility in the matter while disputing certain aspects of The Post's report, particularly regarding his requests for a humidifier and the circumstances surrounding the makeup room dispute.
Currently away in Hawaii for a movie project, Baldwin expressed resignation towards the situation, emphasizing the difficulty of navigating such controversies.
Despite his assertions, the fallout from his actions led to the abrupt end of his venture into hosting a television program, underscoring the consequences of his behavior.
