Nicolas Cage has reached a financial agreement with his ex-girlfriend to settle a lawsuit she filed against him regarding his commitment to provide her with the house where their son was raised.
The terms of the settlement remain undisclosed, but Christina Fulton's attorney described it as mutually beneficial for both parties.
Following a lengthy mediation process at the Los Angeles County Superior Court under Judge Teresa Sanchez-Gordon, Cage, Fulton, and their legal representatives concluded the resolution.
In a brief interaction as Cage was leaving the courthouse, a sheriff's deputy remarked on the long day, to which the actor responded with a tired acknowledgment.
Amidst the negotiations in Judge Sanchez-Gordon's chambers, there was a pivotal moment when the judge conferred with Fulton and her lawyers in the courthouse corridor, hinting at an impending exchange of a substantial sum of money, the specifics of which remain confidential.
Fulton, who is the mother of Cage's 20-year-old son Weston, initiated the $13 million lawsuit two years ago, alleging that Cage reneged on his promise to allow her to retain the Hollywood residence where she nurtured their son.
Despite currently residing in the property, Fulton faces the threat of eviction due to Cage's failure to prevent its foreclosure, as highlighted in a recent interview with CNN.
The outcome of the lawsuit settlement does not ascertain whether Fulton will retain ownership of the house, raising uncertainties about her future residence.
Cage's financial struggles, stemming from significant tax liabilities and depreciating investments, have led to the forfeiture of several other properties over the past couple of years.
Recently, Weston Cage was placed under psychiatric observation at a Los Angeles medical facility following a violent incident in Hollywood.
Fulton intends to pursue a conservatorship for her son to ensure he receives the specialized psychiatric care she believes he requires since relocating from her care upon reaching adulthood.
Responding to allegations from Weston disavowing any association with his mother, Fulton attributed his statements to external influence, suggesting that Cage's legal counsel may have coerced him during his hospitalization.
Undeterred by these challenges, Fulton remains resolute in her commitment to advocating for her son's well-being.
In light of these developments, Fulton emphasized the importance of prioritizing the best interests of her son over popular opinion, asserting her determination to fulfill her parental responsibilities despite the obstacles she faces in securing his welfare.
