Renowned actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, known for his award-winning performances in movies like Capote and his remarkable talent on stage, has passed away at the age of 46 in his New York City apartment.
The discovery of Hoffman's lifeless body was made in his bathroom around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, with reports indicating his death resulted from a suspected drug overdose, as confirmed by a law enforcement official to PEOPLE magazine.
Sources from the police department revealed that Hoffman was found with a syringe still in his arm, and close by were two clear packets believed to contain heroin.
Additionally, eight empty envelopes were also recovered from the scene.
Last May, the actor had sought treatment at a detox facility for heroin addiction.
In a candid revelation to TMZ, Hoffman admitted to a relapse in 2012 after maintaining sobriety for 23 years, confessing to initially abusing prescription medications before turning to heroin use.
In a statement, his family expressed deep sorrow over the unexpected loss of the actor, urging privacy during this period of mourning and requesting thoughts and prayers for Hoffman during this difficult time.
