Brass Against, the popular mostly brass band known for their hard rock covers, recently found themselves in hot water after an incident during one of their performances.
A police report was filed in Daytona, Florida, when lead singer Sophia Urista called a fan onto the stage and proceeded to seemingly urinate on his face while the band played.
The incident took place on November 11th, as the band was performing a cover of Rage Against the Machine’s hit song “Wake Up.”
Urista, who gained recognition after auditioning for “The Voice” in 2016, shocked the audience by pulling down her pants and crouching over the enthusiastic fan, introducing a new form of live streaming.
According to Consequence, Urista specifically chose the willing audience member to join her on stage, stating that she needed to relieve herself and couldn’t make it to the bathroom.
Outraged by the incident, a fan reported the incident to the police, who advised her to file a formal report.
In Florida, it is illegal to expose one’s s**ual organs in public or on private premises in a vulgar or indecent manner.
The charge of indecent exposure carries a maximum punishment of one year behind bars, with a possible $1,000 fine.
The consequences for Urista’s actions could be significant.
Initially, the band distanced themselves from Urista’s “profoundly unexpected” stunt.
However, they later released a statement addressing the incident, reassuring fans that such behavior would not be repeated at future shows.
They expressed their gratitude to the audience for their support at the Welcome to Rockville concert.
Fans had mixed reactions to Urista’s controversial act on social media.
Some praised her for being rebellious and punk rock, while others found it disgusting and inappropriate.
One Twitter user even offered to reciprocate the act, prompting a response from Urista.
Brass Against’s website boasts of their previous collaborations with artists such as Tool, Lenny Kravitz, Living Colour, and Mike D of the Beastie Boys.
The band is scheduled to embark on a European tour in the spring.
In the meantime, Urista will be performing at Brooklyn’s Saint Vitus Bar on November 22nd, where she will have an opportunity to address the incident and its aftermath.
