In a heartfelt tribute, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex expressed their gratitude to Sir Elton John ahead of his final concert at the Dodgers Stadium.
The 75-year-old singer performed at the Los Angeles stadium as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in North America.
The event was livestreamed by Disney+ under the title “Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium”.
Before the concert, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle appeared in a compilation of pre-recorded messages from various celebrities, musicians, and even President Joe Biden.
They took the opportunity to acknowledge Sir Elton's impressive career and thank him for his close friendship with Harry's late mother, Princess Diana, as well as his relationship with their children, Archie and Lilibet.
Meghan started their message by saying, “Hi Elton, we just wanted to say congratulations,” followed by Harry chiming in with the same sentiment.
The duchess continued, expressing their pride in being able to witness Sir Elton's farewell tour.
Prince Harry added his gratitude, thanking the singer for being a friend to his late mother and to their own children.
He also thanked Sir Elton for entertaining people all over the world throughout the years.
While acknowledging that this may be Sir Elton's official retirement, Prince Harry assured him that it would not be his last performance.
They both expressed their love and admiration for the singer, concluding with congratulations on his extraordinary career.
In the video, Meghan is seen resting her head on Harry's shoulder as they bid farewell to the camera.
Meghan wore a dark brown top, while Harry donned a blue suit and white shirt.
The video was filmed at the couple's Archewell offices, as evident from the foundation's logo on the double doors behind them.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been friends with Elton John for many years.
The singer had a close relationship with Princess Diana and continued to support her son after her tragic passing.
Their connection reportedly began in 1981 when Sir Elton performed at Prince Andrew's 21st birthday celebration, and they bonded on the dancefloor.
Following Princess Diana's death in 1997, Sir Elton delivered a moving rendition of his hit song “Candle In The Wind” at her funeral, with lyrics modified to reflect her life.
In 2018, Sir Elton performed at the Sussexes' wedding at Windsor Castle and hosted them at his home in Nice, France in 2019, even providing them with his private jet.
In August, on the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana's death, he paid tribute to her on Instagram, stating, “You will always be missed.”
It seems that the memory of Princess Diana lives on in Prince Harry.
Sir Elton previously spoke about the similarities between the mother and son, noting how Prince Harry possesses the same ability to disarm people upon entering a room.
He compared him to only a few individuals who possess this exceptional quality, including Bill Clinton and Princess Diana herself.
