Prince Philip, who passed away recently, reportedly advised Prince Harry against marrying Meghan Markle due to her previous career in the entertainment industry.
According to a 2019 report in The Sunday Times by former Tatler journalist Sophia Money-Coutts, the late Duke of Edinburgh did not view Markle as suitable for a royal marriage.
Buckingham Palace did not provide any response to the report at that time.
The article mentioned that Harry and Meghan's whirlwind romance lasted just over a year before Harry decided to take it seriously.
It is believed that Prince Philip also shared his opinion on the matter, stating, “One steps out with actresses, one doesn't marry them,” to guide his grandson.
Before becoming a member of the British royal family, Markle gained recognition for her role as Rachel Zane in the popular TV series “Suits,” which she portrayed for seven seasons.
She also had minor parts in several Hollywood films, including “Horrible Bosses” alongside Jennifer Aniston and “Remember Me” with “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson.
While Buckingham Palace did not comment on the reports, Robert Jobson, the Royal Editor for the Evening Standard, expressed doubts about the alleged comments made by Prince Philip.
The article also mentioned William's concerns, as he apparently asked Harry, “Are you sure?”
before the proposal in 2017.
Furthermore, the report suggested that a “senior member” of the family referred to Markle as “the degree wife,” implying that her marriage would only last for three years.
Prince Harry had a close relationship with his grandfather, and he was among the first family members to meet his newborn son, baby Archie, after his birth in May 2019.
However, due to his grandfather's passing, Harry traveled from California to London to attend the funeral at St George's Chapel, Windsor, which took place on Saturday.
Unfortunately, Markle, who is currently pregnant with their second child, could not obtain clearance to travel and watched the televised ceremony from home.
Despite her absence, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex provided a wreath for Prince Philip, accompanied by a handwritten card from Markle herself.
