Eddie Redmayne, a renowned actor famous for his roles in films like The Theory of Everything and the Fantastic Beasts series, has shared insights into his interactions with royalty.
Having attended Eton College, a prestigious institution near Windsor Castle where both Prince William and Prince Harry received their education, Redmayne found himself in close proximity to the royal siblings.
Notably, he and Prince William, who share a mere five-month age difference, even played on the same rugby team during their time at the school.
During an appearance on ‘Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen', Redmayne recounted his experiences as a contemporary of the future monarch.
He expressed empathy for Prince William, revealing, “I did play rugby with Prince William… All they wanted to do was tackle Prince William.” Redmayne added that being alongside the prince made it easier and more enjoyable for him, as William bore the brunt of the tackles during their games together.
In addition to his encounters with Prince William, Redmayne had the honor of meeting Queen Elizabeth II in 2016 when he was bestowed with an OBE for his contributions to acting.
Despite this recognition, Redmayne humbly downplayed his accomplishments, recounting his nerves during the royal encounter.
Reflecting on the experience, he shared, “You go through a door to meet the Queen… there's a string quartet playing music.
I suddenly heard them playing Coldplay!”
Recalling his interaction with Her Majesty, Redmayne lauded the Queen as “so cool” and admitted to feeling anxious in her presence.
When asked about attending Prince Harry's wedding, which coincided with his interview, Redmayne revealed that he had not received an invitation to the nuptials.
Given that Harry is two years younger than both Redmayne and William, opportunities for them to bond during their school days were likely limited.
Despite not being on the guest list for Prince Harry's wedding, Redmayne's connection to the royal family remains notable.
His encounters with Prince William and Queen Elizabeth II offer a glimpse into the actor's brushes with royalty, showcasing a blend of humility and admiration for the regal figures he has met.
As he navigates the world of entertainment and accolades, Redmayne's recollections of his interactions with the British royals add a touch of intrigue to his already illustrious career.
