Princess Catherine, also known as the Princess of Wales, surprised viewers with a stunning piano performance during the Eurovision 2023 grand finale on Saturday night.
The audience was captivated as they watched a video showcasing Princess Kate's exceptional musical talents.
Collaborating with last year's Eurovision champions, Kalash Orchestra, Princess Kate performed their winning song, Stefania, at the iconic Meydan Nezalezarsky metro station in Kiev, Ukraine.
The performance was orchestrated by renowned composers and musical directors Joe Prince and Koju Samuel, and was recorded at the historic Crimson Drawing Room in Windsor Castle earlier this month.
Kingston Palace unveiled a series of images capturing Princess Catherine during the recording session, elegantly dressed in a striking blue silk one-shoulder gown while seated at a grand piano.
The photos depicted her beaming with joy as she gracefully played the piano, exuding a sense of poise and elegance.
Notably, Princess Kate's choice of attire, a Jenny Packin gown in blue, was seen as a symbolic gesture towards Ukraine, the intended host of this year's Eurovision contest.
Due to the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, the event was relocated to the MS Bank Arena in Liverpool City Centre.
Following her remarkable performance, the official Twitter account for the Prince and Princess of Wales shared a tweet expressing their excitement: “A hashtag Eurovision surprise!
A pleasure to join Kalash Orchestra in a special performance of last year's winning Eurovision entry.
Enjoy the show, Liverpool!”
Observant royal enthusiasts may have noticed Princess Kate's touching homage to the late Queen Elizabeth II through the earrings she wore from the Queen's personal collection.
In addition to Princess Catherine, several other notable British musicians, such as Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, Sam Ryder, Miss Banks, Ballet Black, Bolt Strings, and Joss Stones, participated in the memorable performance.
This is not the first time Princess Catherine has showcased her musical talents in public.
Having learned to play the piano as a child, she found solace in music during the challenging times of the pandemic.
A source close to the royal family revealed, “Music played a significant role in her life during the lockdowns.
She understands the unifying power of music, especially in times of adversity, which motivated her to participate in this performance.”
During a Christmas Carol concert she hosted on December 8, 2021, Princess Kate confidently accompanied singer Tom Walker on the piano, delivering a heartfelt rendition of “For Those Who Can't Be Here,” illuminated by candles in Westminster Abbey.
Tom Walker, reflecting on the experience, described it as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
He commended Princess Catherine for her exceptional talent and warm demeanor, emphasizing her kindness and gratitude towards everyone involved in the performance.
Recalling the event, Walker expressed his awe at playing alongside the Duchess and a string quartet in the magnificent venue, noting that it was a surreal and unforgettable moment for him.
The day was filled with magic and wonder, leaving a lasting impression on all those present.
