According to royal expert Hilary Fordwich, Princess Diana had reservations about her husband Prince Charles assuming the role of King in the future.
Despite harboring bitterness towards him, she maintained unwavering loyalty to Queen Elizabeth II and imparted valuable lessons on connecting with the people to the monarchy, especially to King Charles himself.
As the impending Coronation of King Charles III at Westminster Abbey draws near, Fordwich, a UK businesswoman known for her insights on royal matters in the US media, suggested that the 74-year-old monarch-to-be would reflect on his past, including the collapse of his first marriage.
She noted that Princess Diana had openly criticized Charles regarding his suitability for kingship in the past, but acknowledged that times have changed, and he is now perceived favorably by many.
Princess Diana, who hailed from aristocratic lineage with strong ties to British royalty and Winston Churchill through the Spencer-Churchill line, maintained a deep respect for Queen Elizabeth II.
Despite the tumultuous relationship between Charles and Diana leading to their divorce in 1996 after 15 years of marriage, Fordwich mentioned that Diana grew increasingly embittered and developed her own agenda over time.
Acknowledging Diana's personal struggles and feelings of abandonment, particularly stemming from her mother's absence since childhood, Fordwich speculated that Diana's criticisms of Charles may have been influenced by jealousy and emotional pain.
Tragically, just a year after their divorce, Princess Diana passed away at the age of 36 in a car accident in Paris in 1997.
Nevertheless, Fordwich emphasized that Diana's influence and legacy endure.
Fordwich highlighted that Charles has evidently internalized the lessons imparted by Diana, emphasizing a shift towards a modern meritocracy rather than traditional aristocracy within the monarchy.
The upcoming Coronation of King Charles III is expected to echo these principles, symbolizing a continuation of Diana's impact on the royal family.
One notable guest at the Coronation will be Max Woosey, reflecting the evolving dynamics and inclusivity within the monarchy.
As preparations for the significant event unfold, the legacy of Princess Diana continues to shape the direction of the British royal family under the reign of King Charles III.
