Priyanka Chopra Jonas, renowned actress and former Miss World 2000, recently shared her personal struggle with a botched nose surgery that left her feeling devastated and hopeless.
In her newly released memoir, Unfinished, she candidly recounts the challenges she faced after catapulting to global fame.
It all began in the summer of 2001 when Chopra Jonas started experiencing what she initially believed to be a severe sinus infection.
However, as her breathing difficulties worsened, she realized it was something more serious.
Seeking medical advice, she consulted a doctor recommended by a family friend, who discovered a polyp in her nasal cavity that required surgical removal.
At the time, Chopra Jonas viewed the procedure, known as a polypectomy, as a routine surgery.
Unfortunately, things did not go as planned.
During the operation, the doctor inadvertently shaved off the bridge of her nose, resulting in its collapse.
When the bandages were removed, both Chopra Jonas and her mother were horrified by the sight.
Her face looked completely different, and she no longer recognized herself.
The aftermath of the botched surgery took a toll on Chopra Jonas, leaving her feeling devastated and hopeless.
The reflection staring back at her in the mirror felt unfamiliar, and she doubted whether her sense of self or self-esteem would ever fully recover.
To make matters worse, the media dubbed her “Plastic Chopra” following the surgery, causing further distress.
Despite the pressure to explain her altered appearance over the years, Chopra Jonas made a conscious decision to draw a line and keep it private.
As an entertainer, she believed that while she had chosen a public profession, not everything about her life had to be public knowledge.
She emphasized her right to choose what to share and when to share it.
In order to fix the damage caused by the polypectomy, Chopra Jonas underwent multiple corrective surgeries.
Eventually, she began to feel more comfortable with her “normalized” nose.
Although it took time for her to accept the changes in her appearance, she has made peace with the slightly different version of herself that she sees in the mirror.
In her memoir, Unfinished, Chopra Jonas doesn’t only discuss her botched surgery but also delves into the pressures she faced breaking into the acting industry and shares stories of red carpet dress malfunctions.
The book, which provides an intimate glimpse into her life, was released today and is sure to captivate readers with its raw honesty and personal revelations.
