Reese Witherspoon, the 37-year-old actor, has publicly expressed her deep embarrassment regarding her behavior during her recent arrest for disorderly conduct.
Witherspoon and her husband, Hollywood agent Jim Toth, were pulled over by traffic police in Atlanta, resulting in their arrests.
According to the arrest report, Witherspoon asked the state trooper who stopped them, “Do you know my name?”
She further added, “You're about to find out who I am,” and ominously warned, “You're about to be on national news.”
The incident occurred when the couple was stopped by the state trooper and Toth was asked to perform a “walk-and-turn” sobriety test.
Witherspoon refused to stay in the car and was subsequently arrested for disorderly conduct.
Toth, on the other hand, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Although she was released from jail after her arrest, Witherspoon made it to the premiere of her new film, Mud, in New York on Sunday night.
However, she did not address the media and instead posed for photographs before proceeding inside.
Late on Sunday, the Oscar-winning actress released a statement apologizing for her behavior towards the police.
She admitted to having had one drink too many and expressed regret for her disrespectful conduct towards the officer.
Witherspoon acknowledged that the situation was scary but emphasized that it was no excuse for her actions.
She also conveyed her respect for the police and apologized sincerely for her behavior.
Due to the pending case, Witherspoon refrained from commenting further, stating that it was out of respect for the ongoing legal proceedings.
With news of the arrest breaking shortly before Witherspoon's appearance at the red carpet event, the incident garnered significant attention.
Despite this, she chose not to engage with reporters and proceeded with the premiere activities.
According to the arrest report, the state trooper observed that Toth's car was swerving out of its lane early Friday morning, prompting him to initiate a traffic stop.
The trooper noted signs of intoxication in Toth, including droopy eyelids, bloodshot eyes, and the strong smell of alcohol on his breath.
Toth admitted to having consumed a drink, which Witherspoon claimed had been consumed two hours prior at a restaurant before the traffic stop, as stated in the trooper's report.
During the field sobriety test, Witherspoon initially exited the car but complied when instructed to return.
However, she got out of the vehicle again, prompting the trooper to warn her that she would be arrested if she left once more.
As the test continued, the trooper reported that Witherspoon began hanging out of the window, doubting his legitimacy as a police officer.
He instructed her to sit down and be silent.
The trooper then proceeded to arrest Toth for driving under the influence and failure to maintain the lane.
At this point, Witherspoon exited the car and questioned the trooper about the situation.
Despite being told to return to the vehicle, she asserted her status as a US citizen and her right to stand on American ground.
Consequently, the trooper began to arrest her, noting initial resistance that was later cal
