Rain Pryor, the daughter of the late comedian Richard Pryor, has expressed her dissatisfaction with Quincy Jones, her stepmother, and the media for spreading rumors about her father.
In a Facebook post, Rain firmly stated that her father did not have any romantic involvement with Marlon Brando during the 1970s, contrary to recent claims.
Rain Pryor clarified that there were no visits to Brando's private island, no exchange of love notes or flowers, and no collaboration on film projects between the two.
These allegations were initially made by Quincy Jones in an interview with Vulture.
Jones described Brando as a highly charismatic and s**ually active individual who had relationships with both men and women, including Pryor, James Baldwin, and Marvin Gaye.
When asked if Brando had been involved with these men, Jones dismissively responded, “Come on, man.
He did not give a (expletive).”
Brando had openly discussed his bisexuality with friends, and posthumous biographies have quoted him expressing his enjoyment of encounters with men.
Jennifer Pryor, Richard Pryor's fourth and final wife, confirmed to TMZ that her husband had indeed engaged in a s**ual encounter with Brando.
She also revealed that Pryor was open about his bisexuality with his friends.
Jennifer explained that this openness was particularly common in the 1970s, when Pryor experienced mainstream success in comedy, television, and film after emerging from the Berkeley counter-culture.
She emphasized that Pryor would not have been ashamed to admit his relationship with Brando or other men.
In response to the controversy, Rain Pryor expressed her frustration on Facebook, describing it as “tasteless and infuriating” that people felt the need to tarnish her father's reputation for their own relevance.
She specifically called out Quincy Jones, referring to him as a “brilliant music producer who is losing his mind” and accused him of seeking publicity through sensationalized interviews.
Rain Pryor further shared her disappointment at having to defend her father's legacy instead of celebrating his activism and honesty.
She criticized those who believed gossip magazines and emphasized that money and fame should not determine one's credibility.
Both Marlon Brando and Richard Pryor have passed away, with Brando in 2004 and Pryor in 2005.
Rain Pryor concluded her Facebook post by asserting that she should not have to defend her father's character to anyone and expressed her desire to share meaningful stories about him instead.
