New revelations about the late comedian Richard Pryor continue to emerge, even 18 years after his death.
In a recent interview, Pryor's wife Jennifer Lee confirmed that he had “dalliances” with men but was not gay.
She explained that while Pryor preferred women, he was open to exploring other experiences.
Last year, Quincy Jones shocked the public by claiming that Pryor had slept with Marlon Brando, a statement that Jennifer later confirmed as true.
However, Pryor's son Miko disputed this claim.
In a new documentary titled I Am Richard Pryor, Jennifer delves further into her husband's life.
Jennifer clarifies that Pryor's encounters with men, including Brando, were not affairs but rather brief relationships.
She emphasizes that Pryor did not identify as gay and had a preference for women, but he was not opposed to exploring other experiences.
During his standup acts, Pryor would joke about engaging in oral s** with men.
He also wrote about a weeks-long romance with a transgender woman in his autobiography, Pryor Convictions: And Other Life Sentences.
Jennifer recalls that Pryor had no shame about these experiences.
Jennifer first met Richard while assisting a friend in decorating his home.
She was initially aware of his reputation as a hard-edged artist but found him to be vulnerable and sweet when they met.
They quickly fell in love despite Pryor being married to Deborah McGuire at the time.
Their relationship turned romantic after Pryor shot at McGuire's car and got arrested.
Jennifer became aware of Pryor's heavy drug use and hoped that her love could help him overcome it.
However, she eventually realized that Pryor loved freebase cocaine more than he loved her, which broke her heart.
Pryor's addiction to freebase cocaine nearly cost him his life when he accidentally caught on fire while high.
He survived but continued to struggle with his addiction.
After their initial marriage ended due to domestic violence, Jennifer returned to help Pryor when he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1986.
Pryor's later marriages were also plagued by accusations of domestic violence and spousal abuse.
Despite this, Jennifer still loved him and decided to reunite with him to support him during his difficult times.
They eventually remarried in 1994.
Pryor suffered a heart attack in 2005 and passed away at the age of 65.
Jennifer attempted to revive him before paramedics arrived but was unsuccessful.
She describes Pryor as a fascinating man and the love of her life.
The documentary I Am Richard Pryor, which explores the life and legacy of the comedy legend, will premiere on Paramount Network this Friday at 10 p.m.
ET.
