An ex-nanny of actor Rob Lowe has come forward with a lawsuit alleging that Lowe engaged in inappropriate behavior towards her.
Jessica Gibson, aged 24, who had worked for Lowe and his wife, Sheryl, intermittently over a span of seven years, filed an 18-page document in a Santa Barbara court on Monday detailing the accusations.
Gibson decided to leave her employment on February 24.
The legal filing asserts that between September 2005 and January 2008, Lowe, 44, made unwelcome advances towards Gibson, including putting his hand inside her pants on multiple occasions.
Additionally, it claims that in December 2007, the actor grabbed her buttocks without her consent.
During an interview on the Today show alongside her attorney Gloria Allred, Gibson spoke out while Lowe's attorney, Stanton “Larry” Stein, read a statement defending his clients.
Stein highlighted that Gibson's older sister had also worked for the Lowes for seven years and mentioned that Gibson herself had left their employ at least twice to pursue other opportunities but returned each time requesting more hours.
He cited emails from Gibson expressing her affection for the family but stating her lack of enthusiasm for the nanny role as evidence contradicting her current allegations.
In response, Allred contested the defense's claims, indicating a disagreement on the authenticity of the statements made about Gibson's departure and return to work with the Lowes.
When questioned about her decision to continue working in such an environment, Gibson confessed it was due to her fondness for the children, financial necessity, hopes for improvement, and fear.
The legal documents also implicate Sheryl Lowe, aged 46, with harassment accusations by Gibson, alleging inappropriate behavior like walking around the house n^ked, making lewd comments, and discussing intimate matters with Rob Lowe in front of the nanny.
Legal experts view this situation as a classic case of conflicting testimonies, anticipating a contentious legal battle if the case proceeds to trial.
In an attempt to pre-empt the unfolding legal drama, Rob Lowe took to the Huffington Post on April 7 to reveal that a former employee had demanded a significant sum of money under threat of damaging accusations against him and his wife.
Subsequently, Lowe counteracted by suing Gibson and two other ex-employees for violating confidentiality agreements and spreading falsehoods about the couple.
As the legal process unfolds, a hearing date is pending, and Gloria Allred expressed readiness for the upcoming litigation during her appearance on the Today show.
