Robert De Niro Sports Giant Platform Shoes While Filming Alongside Al Pacino

Hollywood stars may appear taller on the screen, but in reality, many celebrities are shorter than they seem.

This proved to be a challenge for veteran actor Robert De Niro while filming in the Bronx, New York for Martin Scorsese's upcoming film, The Irishman.

To compensate for his height, De Niro was spotted wearing a rather absurd pair of shoes on set.

In real life, De Niro stands at a modest five foot eight inches, just one inch taller than his co-star, Al Pacino.

In order to create scenes where De Niro needed to tower over Pacino, the film's wardrobe department arranged for a special pair of shoes to be made.

This is not the first time De Niro and Pacino have collaborated.

They previously shared the screen in The Godfather: Part II during the 1970s, as well as in Heat in 1995 and Righteous Kill in 2008.

While filming a scene from The Irishman, which tells the story of Frank ‘The Irishman' Sheeran, a mob hitman, the actors were seen looking sharp as they strolled through the Bronx.

The film is based on the book I Heard You Paint Houses by Charles Brand, published in 2004.

De Niro portrays an older Sheeran reflecting on his life in the movie, set to be released in 2018.

Pacino, on the other hand, plays Jimmy Hoffa, a labor union leader who mysteriously disappeared in the 1970s and was notably shorter than Sheeran.

Sheeran is believed to have committed 25 murders throughout his career as a hitman.

The Irishman promises to be a departure from Scorsese's previous gangster films, with the director stating that it will have a different style compared to classics like Goodfellas and Casino.
