Russell Crowe, the renowned Australian actor, director, and musician, is known not only for his talent but also for his infamous temper.
While his outbursts have made headlines in the past, it was still a surprise when news broke that Azealia Banks had filed a police report accusing Crowe of assault.
It has been some time since Crowe was last publicly accused of misbehaving.
In a now-deleted Facebook post, Banks claimed that Crowe called her racial slurs, choked her, threw her out of a room, and spat on her during a party in a Beverly Hills hotel suite.
However, an alleged eyewitness contradicted Banks' account, stating that she had made threatening gestures with a glass, saying she would break it and stab everyone present.
According to this source, Crowe then picked her up in a bear-hug-like manner and removed her from the room.
TMZ reported that four people described Banks' behavior as “erratic” that night.
Banks reiterated her claims in an interview with The Sun, but there has been no response from Crowe's camp.
Crowe himself tweeted about his morning bike ride, seemingly unfazed by the allegations.
While Crowe may have a clear conscience in this particular incident, it is reminiscent of his more tumultuous past.
Banks, on the other hand, has gained a reputation for erratic behavior, particularly on social media, and has been arrested twice last year for altercations with security guards and bouncers in New York and Los Angeles.
A source also told The Sun that it was Banks who repeatedly used racial slurs, not Crowe.
This recent controversy brings to mind Crowe's previous encounters with trouble.
In 1999, he was involved in a fight at a hotel in Coffs Harbour, Australia, which was captured on video and aired on television.
Two men faced charges for attempting to extort money from Crowe in exchange for keeping the tape hidden, but the case was dismissed.
In 2002, Crowe publicly apologized for yelling at a BAFTA Awards producer after his acceptance speech for Best Actor was edited for time.
He expressed disappointment that his tribute to mathematician John Nash, whom he portrayed in A Beautiful Mind, was cut from the telecast.
That same year, police were called to a Japanese restaurant in Knightsbridge, London, where Crowe was involved in a brawl with New Zealand businessman and rugby club owner Eric Watson.
The altercation was broken up by Ross Kemp, a former star of the British soap opera EastEnders.
Perhaps most famously, Crowe got into a physical altercation with his own bodyguard on the set of Cinderella Man in 2004.
He later explained the incident in a letter, stating that it stemmed from a misunderstanding and his sensitivity to gossip and speculation.
Despite these incidents, Crowe continues to be a celebrated actor with an impressive body of work.
However, his fiery temperament has undeniably left a mark on his public image.
From South Park's depiction of him “fightin' 'round the world” to his recent clash with Azealia Banks, Crowe's temper remains a topic of interest and intrigue.
