Sally Field recently shared details about her past relationship with Burt Reynolds, shedding light on his jealousy towards her rising stardom.
In her upcoming book, “50 Oscar Nights,” the acclaimed actress discloses that Reynolds, her former partner, struggled to cope with the attention she garnered for her performance in the 1979 film “Norma Rae.”
Recalling a pivotal moment when she expressed interest in attending the Cannes Film Festival to support the movie, Field, now 77, recounted Reynolds dismissing the idea with a discouraging remark.
He skeptically questioned her potential of winning any awards, indicating his lack of support for her aspirations.
Describing Reynolds' behavior as unsupportive and immature, Field revealed that he went as far as declining to accompany her to the 52nd Academy Awards ceremony, leaving her without a date for the prestigious event.
Despite feeling uncertain about the situation, Field eventually attended the ceremony alongside actor and comedian David Steinberg and his spouse, Judy, who turned the evening into a joyous celebration filled with a limousine ride and champagne.
Field's resilience and talent were later recognized with two Oscars, one for Best Actress and another in 1985 for her role in “Places in the Heart.”
Her romantic involvement with Reynolds spanned five years during the late '70s and early '80s, initiated by their collaboration on “Smokey and the Bandit” and extended through three other joint projects.
This revelation is not the first instance of Field expressing criticisms towards Reynolds, who passed away in 2018 at the age of 82.
In a recent interview, she candidly remarked on his inadequacies as a kisser, suggesting that their romantic connection lacked chemistry and finesse, often involving excessive drooling.
While Reynolds had publicly acknowledged Field as a significant love in his memoir, conceding regrets over not fighting harder for their relationship, Field refuted his sentiments, asserting that their dynamic was detrimental to her well-being.
Dismissing his attempts to reframe their history, Field emphasized that she prioritized her emotional health and opted to distance herself from his lingering influence.
Following Reynolds' death, Field chose not to attend his funeral but did offer a poignant reflection on their shared experiences.
She highlighted the enduring impact of certain moments in life, emphasizing the lasting imprint of their relationship despite the passage of time, underscoring her commitment to preserving her autonomy and emotional well-being.
