Sally Field, the renowned actress, recently opened up about her relationship with former partner, Burt Reynolds.
During her appearance on The View, she discussed her new memoir In Pieces and shed light on the fact that she had not spoken to Reynolds for the past 30 years of his life.
Field, now 71 years old, shared that although Reynolds played a significant role in her life, their romantic involvement was relatively short-lived.
They dated for three years and had an on-and-off relationship for another two years.
However, as Field confessed on the show, they ceased communication for the last three decades of Reynolds' life.
The actress mentioned that even during their dating period, Reynolds would often reach out to her through the press.
He would talk about things that he could have easily discussed with her over the phone.
Field recalled instances where Reynolds made public announcements on shows like the Today show, saying, “I need to tell Sally…” Her reaction to these gestures was one of bewilderment and indifference, as she shrugged off the significance of his words.
Field acknowledged that Reynolds will always hold a special place in her heart and her personal history.
She expressed relief that he is no longer suffering, alluding to his recent passing at the age of 82.
During the discussion on The View, Sunny Hostin brought up the fact that Reynolds had referred to Field as the love of his life.
Field responded by saying that, in retrospect, it took Reynolds several decades to publicly acknowledge their deep connection.
He finally expressed his feelings in a 2015 interview with Vanity Fair.
In a separate interview with Diane Sawyer, Field revealed that her instant connection with Reynolds occurred when they first met on the set of Smokey and the Bandit in 1977.
She described their bond as something more profound than a simple love affair, explaining that it involved her caretaking nature and Reynolds' need for support.
Field stated that she felt flattered by Reynolds' admiration for her but acknowledged that he was a complex individual.
Field's memoir In Pieces is now available in bookstores, offering readers a deeper understanding of her life and experiences.
