Salma Hayek recently shared insights about her time filming the movie Desperado during a conversation on Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast.
The 54-year-old actress revealed that her breakout role in the 1993 film had a particularly distressing moment on set.
Hayek disclosed that she was taken aback as she was not informed in advance about a s=x scene that would involve her and her co-star, Antonio Banderas.
She expressed her apprehensions, saying, “So, when we were going to start shooting, I started to sob, ‘I don't know that I can do it.
I'm afraid.'”
During the podcast, Hayek elaborated on her feelings at the time, emphasizing her initial fear and vulnerability.
She recalled being deeply moved by Banderas' supportive and gentlemanly demeanor, despite her own emotional turmoil.
The two actors have maintained a close friendship over the years.
Despite her concerns, Hayek praised director Robert Rodriguez for his understanding and empathetic approach during the filming process.
She acknowledged that while the experience was challenging, both Banderas and Rodriguez made efforts to create a safe and comfortable environment for her.
Reflecting on the intensity of the moment, Hayek admitted that she struggled to overcome her emotional barriers during the scene.
She recounted instances where she found herself unable to fully let go of her inhibitions, despite attempts by the crew to lighten the mood.
Nevertheless, she recognized the collaborative effort to navigate the situation as best they could under the circumstances.
As she grappled with her emotions, Hayek confessed that thoughts of her family weighed heavily on her mind.
Concerned about potential reactions from her father and brother upon seeing the scene, she highlighted the double standard faced by women in such situations compared to men.
She noted how societal expectations and perceptions often differ based on gender roles.
Despite the challenging experience, Hayek commended the support and camaraderie she shared with Banderas, who has been a constant presence in her career.
The duo has reunited on multiple projects following their initial collaboration on Desperado, showcasing their enduring professional relationship.
In a gesture of admiration and appreciation, Hayek honored Banderas by presenting him with the International Star Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival last year.
Their shared history and mutual respect have solidified their bond both on and off-screen, marking a lasting connection forged through their artistic endeavors.
