Actress Salma Hayek disclosed on Wednesday her disturbing experience with disgraced Hollywood figure Harvey Weinstein, stating that he used coercion to include a s=x scene in her passion project film, “Frida,” threatening to halt production if she did not comply.
In an op-ed for The New York Times, Hayek detailed how Weinstein insisted on full-frontal n^dty and a s–ual encounter with another woman in the film.
She expressed feeling compelled to agree as she believed Weinstein would not allow the movie to proceed without fulfilling his desires.
Motivated by the multitude of women who have come forward with allegations of s–ual misconduct against Weinstein, Hayek decided to share her own encounter with what she described as “my monster.”
Weinstein has consistently denied any claims of non-consensual s–ual interactions.
His spokesperson mentioned that Weinstein does not recall pressuring Hayek for the gratuitous scene and clarified that a n^de sequence with actress Ashley Judd was essential to the storyline, given Frida Kahlo's bisexuality.
The success of “Frida,” which Hayek produced and starred in, elevated her status in Hollywood and garnered two Academy Awards under Weinstein's production company, Miramax.
Reflecting on the revelations made by numerous women regarding Weinstein's actions, Hayek admitted to underestimating the significance of her story in the grand scheme of things, realizing the magnitude of the issue at hand.
In the midst of resisting Weinstein's advances, Hayek recounted instances where she felt threatened and intimidated by him.
Despite initially standing her ground, she eventually acquiesced to his demands to protect the fate of her film.
When filming the controversial scene alongside Judd, Hayek described feeling emotionally distraught and having to rely on medication to cope with the distress caused by Weinstein's influence.
Following Weinstein's dismissal from his own studio due to widespread accusations of s–ual harassment, investigations into his conduct have been launched in New York City, Los Angeles, and London.
In response to Hayek's public statement, fellow actress Rose McGowan, who has accused Weinstein of assault, expressed solidarity and empathy towards Hayek for enduring similar mistreatment in the industry.
