Salma Hayek’s Struggle with Harvey Weinstein Revealed During Frida Kahlo Project

, aged 55, recently opened up about her experiences working on the film and the challenges she faced with disgraced producer .

In a candid interview with The Guardian, the actress discussed the lengthy process of bringing to life the biopic of the renowned Mexican artist.

Hayek's portrayal in the movie earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.

Despite facing bullying from Weinstein throughout the production, Hayek emphasized that she never allowed him to exert control over her.

Recalling the incidents, Hayek shared how Weinstein would berate her, questioning her appearance by yelling, “Why do you have a [monobrow] and mustache?

I didn't hire you to look ugly!”

The actress responded assertively, pointing out the resemblance to Kahlo herself.

Comparing her situation to a hypothetical scenario, Hayek highlighted the double standards in the industry, stating that a male actor embodying a character like Cyrano de Bergerac wouldn't face similar criticism.

Describing her resilience in dealing with Weinstein, Hayek expressed her unwavering strength, emphasizing that she never displayed vulnerability in front of him.

Despite moments of fear, she projected a composed and formidable demeanor throughout their interactions.

A representative for Weinstein shared a contrasting perspective, recalling positive memories of their past interactions and dinners with Hayek and her husband, François-Henri Pinault.

In 2017, amidst the wave of allegations against Weinstein, Hayek penned a heartfelt op-ed for The New York Times, detailing instances where Weinstein resorted to threatening behavior when his advances were rebuffed.

Responding to these claims, Weinstein's spokesperson reiterated his admiration for Hayek as an actress and cited their collaborations in various films, including Once Upon a Time in Mexico and Dogma.

Transitioning from her past struggles, Hayek is now embracing a new role in Marvel's Eternals, portraying Ajak, the leader of a group of immortal beings tasked with protecting Earth.

Reflecting on her unexpected venture into superhero territory at the age of 55, Hayek expressed gratitude and excitement for the opportunities that lie ahead, both personally and professionally.

Marvel's Eternals, featuring Hayek in a pivotal role, is set to premiere in theaters this Friday, promising a fresh chapter in the actress's illustrious career.
