Scott Eastwood Recalls Brad Pitt Intervening in Heated Moment with Shia LaBeouf on ‘Fury’ Set

On the set of David Ayer's 2016 World War II film “Fury,” tensions rose between actors Scott Eastwood and over an incident involving spitting tobacco.

The situation escalated to a point where their co-star had to step in to defuse the conflict.

Eastwood recounted the “volatile” encounter that occurred when LaBeouf took offense after seeing Eastwood spit on the tank he was riding, as part of a tank crew led by Pitt's character in the movie.

Despite it being scripted for Eastwood to spit on the tank, LaBeouf misunderstood and became upset, leading Pitt to intervene.

Reflecting on the incident, Eastwood emphasized the importance of not letting one's acting process affect how people are treated on set.

He stated that the goal should be to enhance the production without creating a negative or uncomfortable work environment for others.

During a British GQ profile in 2014, Pitt shared his perspective on the situation, recalling a moment when tensions rose between the actors while filming a scene.

Pitt highlighted how the intense filming experience, combined with the misunderstanding over Eastwood's actions, contributed to the conflict that ensued.

Pitt revealed that he felt a sense of protection over the set, considering it their “home,” which led him to address the issue with Eastwood.

Despite the initial clash between the actors, Pitt acknowledged that everyone was simply following the script's instructions, indicating a misinterpretation of the situation.

Eastwood reiterated that filmmaking is a form of storytelling and should not lead to conflicts like the one experienced on the “Fury” set.

He emphasized the need for boundaries and professionalism during the filming process, ensuring that everyone involved feels respected and comfortable in their work environment.

In light of the incident, representatives for LaBeouf and Pitt declined to provide comments on the matter.

The episode serves as a reminder of the complexities and challenges that can arise during the collaborative process of filmmaking, underscoring the importance of effective communication and mutual respect among cast and crew members.

Ultimately, the experience on the set of “Fury” serves as a lesson in navigating interpersonal dynamics and maintaining a harmonious working environment in the pursuit of creating compelling cinematic narratives.

Eastwood's recollection of the incident sheds light on the nuanced interactions that occur behind the scenes of a film production, showcasing the blend of creativity and professionalism required in the industry.
