Scotty Bowers, the Hollywood Figure Who Arranged Intimate Encounters for Celebrities, Passes Away at 96

The renowned Scotty Bowers, a veteran of World War II, who famously claimed to have engaged in threesomes with and facilitated 's connections with approximately 150 women over almost four decades, has died at the age of 96.

Known as a man who orchestrated liaisons for Hollywood luminaries and even members of royalty, including the abdicated King Edward and his wife Wallace Simpson, Bowers passed away due to natural causes at his residence in Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles on Sunday.

This information was conveyed by the director of his recent documentary.

According to Matt Tyrnauer, the director of the 2017 documentary “Scotty and The Secret History of Hollywood,” Bowers chose to reveal his story only in his late 80s after years of silence.

This narrative offers a remarkable alternative perspective on Hollywood, shedding light on the cultural norms of the movie industry during a period when individuals who identified as gay had to navigate societal restrictions, often leading clandestine lives to avoid public condemnation and persecution.

Bowers, who played a pivotal role in the underground gay community of Hollywood, was known for safeguarding the lives of his friends and associates, offering them protection during times when they were compelled to live in secrecy.

The passing of Scotty Bowers at the age of 96 marks the end of an era.

The World War II veteran, who succumbed to natural causes, was a central figure in Hollywood's underground scene.

In his 2017 documentary, Bowers elaborated on his transition into the realm of Hollywood post-World War II, emphasizing his evolution from running a gas station on Hollywood and Van Ness to becoming deeply entrenched in the inner circles of the entertainment industry.

Born as George Albert Bowers, he recounted his upbringing on an Illinois farm and shared early experiences of intimacy with a married male neighbor, dismissing any claims of childhood abuse.

Following his relocation to Chicago, Bowers engaged in paid relationships with priests and hustled in downtown areas, ultimately leading him to enlist in the Marines and serve as a paratrooper during World War II.

Upon returning from his military service in 1945, Bowers ventured to Los Angeles, where he embarked on a new chapter in Hollywood, working as a gas station attendant on Hollywood Boulevard.

It was here that his role as a facilitator for the s-*ual preferences of famous personalities began to flourish.

Bowers' influence extended to iconic figures such as actor Walter Pidgeon, whom he credits for introducing him to the elite circles of Hollywood.

He asserted claims of arranging encounters for stars like Wallis Simpson and the abdicated King Edward VIII, shedding light on the clandestine liaisons that occurred behind the scenes in Tinseltown.

Throughout his career, Bowers maintained a discreet yet influential presence in Hollywood, catering to the diverse desires of celebrities and shaping their intimate experiences according to their inclinations.

His memoir, “Full Service: My Adventures in Hollywood and the Secret s-* Lives of the Stars,” published in 2012 after the demise of those involved, offered a glimpse into a hidden world of desire and discretion.

Despite the controversies surrounding his activities, Bowers remained an enigmatic figure on the social circuit in Hollywood, celebrated for his role in shaping the intimate landscape of the entertainment industry.

His legacy as a boundary-pushing individual was recognized in 2018 by the City of West Hollywood, which honored him for his contributions to LGBTQ history at a special event held at The Abbey bar and restaurant.
