Allison Mack, the well-known American actress who played a role in the TV series Smallville, has been released from federal prison after serving two years of a three-year sentence for her involvement in the cult-like group Nxivm.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed that Mack was released on Monday from a prison in Dublin, California.
During her sentencing in a Brooklyn court in 2021, a federal judge described Mack as an “essential accomplice” who used her fame to lure women into Nxivm and groom them as s**ual partners for the group’s leader, Keith Raniere.
Mack pleaded guilty to racketeering and conspiracy charges in 2019 after being arrested in 2018.
Although Mack could have faced up to 17 years in prison, she received a shorter sentence due to her cooperation with prosecutors by providing evidence against Raniere.
Raniere, who was sentenced to 120 years in prison in 2020, was found guilty of s** trafficking and other crimes.
Many women within Nxivm were s**ually abused by him and branded with his initials in a secret ceremony.
Mack’s involvement with Nxivm began after her successful acting career on Smallville.
She quickly became a prominent figure within the group, which was based in Albany, New York.
In court, she admitted to luring women into a secretive subgroup within Nxivm under the pretense of a female mentorship program.
However, it was revealed that she had actually recruited them as “slaves,” some of whom were required to engage in s**ual activities with Raniere.
In a letter addressed to those affected by her actions, Mack expressed remorse for the decisions she made and the harm caused.
She explained that she had believed wholeheartedly in the teachings of Keith Raniere and thought they would lead her to a better version of herself.
However, she now considers her involvement with Nxivm as the biggest mistake and regret of her life.
Allison Mack’s early release from prison comes after her assistance in convicting Raniere and shedding light on the criminal activities within Nxivm.
While her actions have had severe consequences, her cooperation has played a significant role in bringing justice to the victims and dismantling the cult-like group.
