Jonathan Majors, the well-known actor from Creed, is currently facing charges of misdemeanor assault and harassment in relation to an incident involving his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, which occurred in March.
The police responded to a call reporting alleged domestic violence and subsequently arrested Majors.
Despite the charges against him, Jonathan Majors has pleaded not guilty to all accusations.
However, Judge Michael Gaffey informed him during a recent hearing that if he is convicted in the trial, he could potentially face a maximum jail sentence of one year.
The trial will proceed regardless of Majors’ attendance.
According to a report from Deadline, six jurors and two alternates have been selected to examine the charges of misdemeanor assault and harassment against Jonathan Majors.
Interestingly, during his appearance in court last Wednesday, Majors was seen holding hands with his new girlfriend, Meagan Good.
Since the allegations surfaced, several companies, including the public relations firm representing Majors, have severed ties with him.
People reported that Majors’ attorney, Priya Chaudhry, claims to have provided the District Attorney’s office with “irrefutable evidence” proving that the alleged victim in the March incident is lying about the facts of the case.
Chaudhry referred to the assault case as a “witch hunt” against her client.
The actor’s lawyer has been diligently working to establish his innocence, even presenting alleged text messages that supposedly show Jabbari denying the allegations against Majors.
Variety reported that multiple alleged abuse victims of Majors have come forward and are cooperating with the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.
Judge Gaffey has made it clear to Jonathan Majors that if he is indeed found guilty of domestic violence, he could be sentenced to one year in prison.
In an interesting turn of events, it was revealed that Grace Jabbari, Majors’ ex-girlfriend, was also arrested for misdemeanor assault and criminal mischief last October.
According to Deadline, Judge Gaffey has decided that the jury should be informed of her arrest, stating, “This is a situation where I think it is information that should be put before a jury.
The jury should hear about it.”
Despite her arrest, Jabbari will still be allowed to testify, as prosecutors argue that she willingly surrendered herself when authorities sought her.
NBC News reported that all charges against Jabbari have since been dropped, with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office stating that the case lacked prosecutorial merit.
Jabbari’s attorney claimed that the NYPD’s decision to charge her was “unfortunate and re-traumatizing,” emphasizing that she is not the perpetrator but rather the victim.
Amidst these legal proceedings, there have been reports that Marvel will continue to support Jonathan Majors, despite rumors of Mads Mikkelsen taking over the role of Doctor Doom in Secret Wars.
However, the situation remains open-ended.
