Margot Robbie has undoubtedly become one of the most adored and sought-after female actors of our time.
Her exceptional portrayal of Harley Quinn in the DC films has catapulted her career, earning her supporting roles in Warner Bros movies and the lead in Birds of Prey.
Directors like Quentin Tarantino, Damien Chazelle, and Greta Gerwig have all recognized her talent and desired to work with her.
Her outstanding performances have also earned her recognition during awards season.
She received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress for her role in the 2017 biopic I, Tonya, and another nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her part in the 2019 drama Bombshell, where she played a character who experienced alleged s**ual harassment.
However, there is one scene from her early years in the industry that Margot Robbie openly admits she regrets filming.
Before she became a well-established name, Robbie collaborated with Martin Scorsese on The Wolf of Wall Street, a film that helped put her on the map.
But there's a particular moment in the movie that she would rather not revisit.
In this bombastic semi-fictional biography, Robbie's character, Naomi, the second wife of real-life millionaire stockbroker Jordan Belfort (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), finds herself involved in explicit scenes.
One such scene involves the couple making love on a bed covered in counterfeit cash and under the influence of copious amounts of cocaine.
During a 2017 interview with The Daily Beast, Robbie shared an unusual lesson she learned from that scene.
As it turns out, using fake money instead of real currency during filming had unexpected consequences.
“I got a million paper cuts on my back from all that money!
It's not as glamorous as it sounds,” she revealed.
Robbie discovered that the texture of movie money is quite different from genuine bills, leading to some shocking observations from the film crew.
“Maybe real money is a bit softer, but the fake money is like paper, and when I got up off the bed, I turned around to get my robe, and everyone gasped,” Robbie recalled.
“I said, ‘What is it?' And they said, ‘You look like you've been whipped a million times.
Your back is covered in a thousand red scratches.'”
Although working with Scorsese was undoubtedly a career highlight for Robbie, this particular anecdote doesn't align well with the rest of the film's narrative.
She also made it clear that it's an experience she wouldn't recommend to anyone.
“If anyone is ever planning on having s** on top of a pile of cash: don't.”
In conclusion, Margot Robbie's journey in the film industry has been filled with success, recognition, and memorable roles.
However, there's one scene she regrets filming due to the unexpected consequences of using counterfeit money.
It serves as a valuable lesson learned on the set of The Wolf of Wall Street, reminding us that not everything is as glamorous as it appears on screen.
