Tim Allen Reflects on Troubled Past and Controversial Politics

In a recent interview on the WTF With Marc Maron podcast, renowned Hollywood actor opened up about his notorious drug arrest from decades ago and his time spent in federal prison.

The 67-year-old star also spoke about his amusement with former President Donald Trump's ability to provoke his critics.

During the podcast, Allen candidly admitted to being a “screw-up.”

He revealed that he began drinking heavily in his youth, which worsened after his father tragically passed away in a car accident in Colorado.

Allen confessed, “After my old man died, I played games with people.

I told adults what they wanted to hear and then stole their booze.

I was like Eddie Haskell from Leave It to Beaver, always pretending to be polite while secretly causing trouble.”

Allen's life took a dark turn in 1978 when he was arrested at the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport in Michigan.

Authorities discovered over a pound of cocaine in his luggage.

At just 23 years old, he spent slightly over two years behind bars.

Since then, Allen has been on a path to sobriety and has now been clean for 23 years.

Nevertheless, his mugshot has continued to haunt him throughout his career.

Reflecting on his time in prison, the Last Man Standing star shared, “I simply followed instructions and played by the rules.

It was the first time I actually did what I was told and played the game.

I learned how to live day by day and, most importantly, how to keep my mouth shut.

Learning when to stay silent is a valuable skill.”

Despite assumptions that he aligns with liberal Hollywood values, Allen described himself as a “fiscal conservative.”

He expressed his surprise at fans' reactions to his occasional political remarks, stating, “I don't lecture anyone.

I simply haven't embraced what I call the ‘we culture.'

I don't believe in dictating how others should live their lives.

I dislike phrases like ‘We should do this' or ‘We should do that.'”

Furthermore, Allen confessed that he found pleasure in the fact that Trump's presidency provoked strong reactions from people.

He enjoyed not participating in the frenzy of criticism, stating, “Once I realized that the last president upset people, I kind of liked it.

So it was fun to remain silent and not join the crowd of people attacking him.”

's interview on the WTF With Marc Maron podcast sheds light on his troubled past, his journey towards sobriety, and his political stance as a self-proclaimed fiscal conservative.

Despite his infamous drug arrest and prison time,
