Timothée Chalamet, known for his role in “Call Me By Your Name,” has finally addressed the allegations surrounding his former co-star Armie Hammer.
The duo starred as lovers in Luca Guadagnino’s 2017 romantic film set in Italy.
In recent times, Hammer faced serious accusations of s–ual misconduct and abuse by multiple women, including one allegation of rape.
While denying any criminal acts, Hammer admitted to being emotionally harmful and mistreating others.
During a recent interview with GQ, Chalamet discussed the timing of these allegations, which emerged while he was working on Guadagnino’s upcoming project, “Bones and All,” a cannibal love story.
Some claims against Hammer included references to cannibalistic desires expressed in messages to women.
Chalamet reflected on the situation, remarking on the peculiar coincidence of developing a project with such themes amidst the unfolding controversy.
He expressed a sense of obligation to proceed with the film, emphasizing that it is based on a book, separate from the allegations.
When asked about his personal reaction to the scandal involving Hammer, Chalamet acknowledged the overwhelming nature of the media coverage, describing it as disorienting and heavily sensationalized.
In consequence of the accusations, Hammer faced professional repercussions, losing representation and being removed from various projects, such as the film “Shotgun Wedding,” the Broadway play “The Minutes,” and the TV series “The Offer.”
Despite the intense scrutiny, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced in May that Hammer would not face charges related to the assault allegations due to insufficient evidence.
Hammer broke his silence earlier this year, revealing details of his past experiences with abuse and trauma, including an incident of s–ual abuse at a young age.
These events reportedly influenced his exploration of BDSM and extreme power dynamics in intimate relationships.
Expressing the depth of his despair amid the scandal, Hammer disclosed thoughts of self-harm, only to reconsider due to his responsibilities as a parent to his children.
Following his separation from ex-wife Elizabeth Chambers in 2020, Hammer settled their divorce earlier this year, navigating personal challenges amidst the public fallout from the allegations leveled against him.
