Canadian rapper Tory Lanez has been relocated to a state prison in California, where he will serve his 10-year sentence for shooting fellow hip-hop artist Megan Thee Stallion.
According to prison records, Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was admitted into North Kern State Prison in Delano on Tuesday.
As part of the transfer, Lanez had a new mug shot taken, appearing expressionless in the photo.
In August, Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison after being found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete, in the foot following a party they attended in Los Angeles in 2020.
The incident occurred after a gathering at Kylie Jenner's residence on July 12, 2020.
Lanez, who pleaded not guilty to three felony charges in December, including assault with a semi-automatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence, was convicted by a jury.
Days after losing his appeal bond request, which aimed to secure his release while he attempts to overturn his conviction, Lanez was transferred to the state prison.
Although disappointed by the denial of the appeal bond, Lanez's representation in his appeal, Unite the People, a nonprofit organization, remains resolute.
In a statement, they said, “The denial of the appeal bond is undoubtedly disappointing, but it does not deter us from our mission.”
Prior to his sentencing, Lanez expressed remorse for his actions and took full responsibility for the shooting.
However, in a later Instagram post, he clarified that he was only accepting responsibility for “verbal and intimate moments” shared with those involved and not for the charges he believed were wrongful convictions.
Lanez affirmed his determination to continue fighting until he achieves victory.
